Tahoe Canada Team Wins Ontario Mine Rescue Competition

Tahoe Canada’s mine rescue team placed First Overall at the Ontario Mine Rescue Competition in June, following months of preparation and a recent win at the May 2018 Timmins District Competition. The team earned the coveted golden hard hats as the overall winner of the 69th-annual Provincial Competition in Matachewan.

Tahoe Canada competed against seven other teams in scenarios designed to test their firefighting and lifesaving skills, emergency equipment use, first aid response, and high-pressure decision-making ability in underground simulated emergencies. During the two-day event, the team demonstrated exceptional proficiency responding to mock emergencies that included building a barricade, extinguishing a mine fire, and rescuing an injured miner from an 80 foot shaft.

Congratulations are in order for the Tahoe Canada rescue team, consisting of Capt. Adam Weagle, No. 2 Sylvain Falardeau, No. 3 Nick Schwehr, No. 4 Mat Johnson, Vice-Capt. Pierre Gagne, No. 6 Rick Martin, and Briefing Officer Terry Roy.
